For 2011 we plan to revise the volunteering system. The positions will likely remain the same but expectations about volunteering will change.
Volunteering:
At VWMSA, the only paid position we have is umpire coordinator. Though you can opt out (at a cost) we prefer that you volunteer. To fulfill your 8-hour per family minimum commitment, priorities for volunteering are (from highest priority to lowest) :
Coach/assistant coach - over half the executive are also coaches or assistant coaches
project manager: one time activities we either need to do or want to do, or you convince us we should do (priority on these varies). Some identified projects are on the signup page
general labour: supporting a key or standing position, or supporting a project manager. Eight hours is expected per family if this is how you do it, so it may take more than one activity to get there.
On top of your volunteer commitment or if you opt out of volunteering, you are still expected to pitch in with your team especially in practices. For example, treasurer of a rep team, scorekeeper, or field prep for only your child's team(s) don't count toward your volunteer obligation.
