Midget        

Birth Years 1992 to 1994

Schedule: 

Season runs from mid April until  mid June.   Playoffs in mid- June. Winner to advance to Distict Playoffs and if successful to participate in the Provincial Championships in North Delta July 9-11.  If our total Midget numbers are less than 60, the team at the provincials can do unlimited pickups.

 2 games and one practice a week (possible additional practices, such as batting cage, at coaches' discretion).  

Games: 

Mondays  and Wednesdays.

Games follow Softball BC rules, with a 5 run mercy rule.

Umpires at each game, subject to availablilty.

Practices:   

90 minutes/week, day and location depend on the coach and field availability.  Additional practices and batting cage practices may also be scheduled at the coaches discretion.

Tournaments:  

Discretionary, but fun!  VWMSA will pay the entry fee for one tournament.

Coaching:    

Softball BC rules specify that Midget coaches will have completed NCCP Community or Competition 1, and the head coach at tournaments must be so certified.  The VWMSA strongly encourages head coaches to take the courses, and will reimburse the cost of the course.

Team size:  

12 - 14 preferred.  Coach, two assistant coaches, manager, volunteer manager.

Parks:  

Generally games are played at parks on the  Vancouver Westside,  usually Trafalgar, Carnarvon and Balaclava.  Occasional interlock game with the Eastside Lakers, if there is a team in this division. Possible interlock with North Shore, Burnaby, or Richmond as opportunities present themselves, and at coach's discretion.

Equipment:  

Required: Glove, batting helmet (cage recommended), mouthguard, baseball shoes, 'jill' if catching, sliding pad. Optional equipment:  Batting gloves, infield face protection, sliding shorts, bat.
