VWMSA Pitching Clinics

The VWMSA offers introductory and intermediate & advanced pitching clinics for players interested in developing their windmill pitching skills. Windmill style pitching is a complicated skill which requires considerable time and effort to develop, and which can not be developed without proper coaching. We are fortunate to have clinicians available to us who have a proven record of developing top ranked pitchers from players in our association. Players interested in catching are encouraged to attend and catch for pitchers.

Clinician: Monday - Thursday - Gary Kingman: Coach Kingman coached in the Wildcats "A" and "B" program for 13 years. In addition, he has instructed for 10 years at our introductory and advanced/intermediate pitching clinics.

Clinician: - Monday - Vanessa Williams: Vanessa played her minor softball in Alberta. Her team made 3 appearances at the Canadian National Championships, and she was a member of Team Alberta for both The Western Canada and Canada Summer Games. After her minor career Vanessa went on to pitch at Furman University, NCAA Division 1 in South Carolina. Last year was her first year with the Wildcats Program as an assistant coach with the 1999 Wildcats.

NCCP Coaching Clinics / (New) Competition 1 and 2 - See Softball BC web site for more information

These are the most comprehensive coaching clinics available for the sport of softball. The MMM Corporation, in conjunction with Sport Canada, administers this program to develop coaches in various sports, including fastpitch softball. The program is broken down into levels. Levels 1 through 3 are typically considered to be for the amateur level of sports, and levels 4 and 5 for more advanced levels. Each level includes theory, practical and technical components. The theory component is not sport specific, but is designed to give coaches general information and instruction relevant to all sports. The technical component is sport specific, where coaches learn how to instruct players on various skills and techniques, whereas the practical level is gained through experience coaching. The theory and technical components are typically taught over a weekend, with about 16 hours of instruction for each component. Home study courses are available for the theory levels.

NCCP clinics are available at various times and locations around the lower mainland. Information about available upcoming clinics is available on the Softball BC web site.

The VWMSA requires coaches to enroll in the NCCP program, and to qualify at the following levels, to coach the level indicated:

Mite Coaches/Assistants in-house training clinic
"C" Coaches Squirt
Association Technical Clinic
"C" Coaches Pee Wee & Above Level 1 New NCCP In Training
"B" Coaches Level 2 NCCP Trained
"B" Assistant Coaches Level 1 NCCP In Training
