Season Planning for 2010
by Will Gaherty, posted on 10:14 AM, February 14, 2010
  1. Our current enrollment (350) won't support a good Bantam/Midget program in the long run, and so we think we must build back to about 600-650.  Since the association had 1400 kids in the late 1990s and North Vancouver is at about 600 today, we think this is do-able.
  2. The league is in good financial condition and able to live within our current income.  Fund raising will occur for rep teams.  If the league does fundraising, it would be to providing improved coach training and outside coaching support.  We have no reliance on grants, and so the current government situation should not affect us.
  3. We want to make volunteering easier and fairer, and to move more online.  One key change will be a volunteer manager on every team, to help use and track volunteer time.  Expect bigger changes in the 2011 season.
  4. We plan to move our Learn to Play program closer to the model of Softball Canada's Parmalat LTP program, which was available to our coaches last year.  This will mean less emphasis on softball 'games' at this level, and more emphasis on skill building fun.
  5. We are working to increase support for coaches, especially at the younger Divisions, and to this end have tentatively struck a deal to have a Midget '91 A team that includes a number of former Wildcats who are playing college softball.  The deal is that they will help out, with Mites especially.
  6. We are making changes to the Mites program to put earlier emphasis on pitching skills for all players.  Reasonably skilled player-pitchers are critical to fun games at every level, and starting properly is important.
